CoSpaces - Week 6

CoSpaces is an online software platform where users can create virtual reality experiences and scenes, without any programming or without being skilled in design and technology-based design softwares. CoSpaces can be used in a school environment such as for creating educational games, visualisations or simulations that are interactive and assist in engaging students within a classroom setting (Drakopoulos, 2021).

CoSpaces can be downloaded and used on a laptop and iPad/tablet however, only once you have completed your virtual scene and saved it, you will be able to view it on a smartphone or even any virtual reality headsets.

This platform allows students or anyone to create basically any type of virtual scene they want. This can include, underwater scenes, party/disco scenes, boat scenes or even regular street life scenes. This software allows you to add on animations or actions for the people to do as well as sounds. You can also add random objects to the interface. For example, in my scene you can see regular street life with some couples on the street, one holding baby, one couple showing their affection for each other, one couple appearing to argue with each other as well as even a boy sitting on a skate board.

It can be used in education to foster creativity by engaging the students more to aid their learning in developing independent skills such as problem-solving, team work and collaboration, and general creative awareness. It can also be used in many different subjects such as history, science, math and art.

CoSpaces can truly foster creativity in learning and education as it encourages experimentation and innovation. It allows students to play around and create anything they want or have been thinking about, that perhaps they could not put into words for a creative writing assignment, It also helps students in their creativity for learning and their assisting in education as some students are more visual learners and struggle with other learning types, so this way out allows the students to help themselves in their own learning as well and comprehend knowledge better also in a fun environment.

In week 6, we looked at a 360 degree video on YouTube and had a discussion about how the video could foster creativity and learning in other children. It can help foster creativity because other students may see this and may want to try and find a solution to the story and help all those other students from the video as well as also recognise how lucky they are to have all these tools to help them be creative and how fortunate they are to have proper access to education and may push them to work harder an study more in school.

Hi Shira!

Firstly, such a cute example of the CoSpace use! Of course, great blog post too, loved the in depth discussion of CoSpaces accessibility and how teachers can use it. Some possible examples would go great with your talk of creative fostering with the technology, but the one at the end was a great one too !

Hi Shira,

What a great post about Virtual Reality that I really enjoyed reading. You have provided really clear and insightful information on CoSpaces, about how it works and what features it has. I like that you have mentioned where you can view CoSpaces once you have created a virtual world. You have included some great examples of how CoSpaces can be used within a classroom by teachers, however, including links to the NSW syllabus would indicate to teachers just how easy it is to implement into activities. Also, it would have been good to include a limitation of CoSpaces.

Thanks,

Hi Shira,

I loved your post on CoSpaces. You have clearly shown some great examples of how it works and can be used to enhance students' creativity as well as other useful skills like problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration. However, It would have been great to have specific examples of how CoSpaces can be used in lessons for teachers. While the post mentions that it can be used in a variety of subjects, it would have been useful to see some concrete examples of how it has been used in these subject areas.

Margot 😊
